BMW Reveal Electric Car Details

The sporty, stylish, and expensive Megacity, set to be released in 2013, is made out of lightweight carbon fibre and aluminium and will be built from the ground up using the company’s “LifeDrive structure”. BMW claim it to be the first car exclusively designed to be mass produced as only an electric car.

Along with the carbon fibre and aluminium specs more accustom to BMW super cars, the car will offer a 35-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The German car maker has been working on the electric car project since 2007. The target market for the aptly named “Megacity” is urban areas, where more than half the worlds population live.

Battery technology has “reached the point where it really makes sense to drive electric,”

A major manufacture like BMW jumping on board the Green powered electric band wagon seems to suggest one of two things. Either BMW want plans that will see the company survive in a post fossil fuel car market… or the company wants a greener image to help sell cars in the current world climate. Either way, this car looks like an interesting development.
